AD Ports Group has announced plans to develop a large-scale sugar refining, agro-processing and logistics hub in partnership with BUA Group and MAIR Group, supporting long-term food security objectives in Abu Dhabi. The strategic initiative reflects the emirate’s commitment to strengthening supply chain resilience, enhancing domestic processing capabilities and securing essential food commodities through global partnerships.

The proposed hub will integrate sugar refining, food processing and advanced logistics infrastructure within Abu Dhabi, creating a seamless value chain from raw material imports to finished product distribution. By localising critical stages of food production, the project aims to reduce dependency on external markets while ensuring consistent supply for domestic and regional demand. The initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader vision to build a sustainable, self-reliant food ecosystem supported by modern infrastructure and international expertise.

AD Ports Group will play a central role by providing world-class port facilities, logistics services and integrated trade solutions. Its infrastructure capabilities will enable efficient handling, storage and transportation of raw materials and refined products, strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a regional hub for food trade and agro-industrial activity. The involvement of BUA Group brings extensive experience in sugar refining and large-scale industrial operations, while MAIR Group contributes agribusiness investment expertise and global sourcing networks.

Beyond sugar refining, the agro-processing hub is expected to support diversification into related food industries, encouraging value-added manufacturing and technology-driven processing solutions. This approach enhances food availability while creating new opportunities for knowledge transfer, employment and industrial growth within the emirate.

The project also contributes to supply chain sustainability by optimising logistics efficiency and reducing transit risks associated with long-distance imports. By combining industrial processing with advanced port connectivity, Abu Dhabi strengthens its ability to respond to global market fluctuations and geopolitical disruptions affecting food supplies.

Through this collaboration, Abu Dhabi reinforces its leadership in food security planning, industrial diversification and strategic investment. The partnership demonstrates how public and private sector cooperation can deliver long-term economic resilience while safeguarding essential resources for future generations.
