Abu Dhabi is set to host the Cyber Run & Ride 2026 on January 17–18, a unique community event that combines physical activity, family engagement, and digital security awareness. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council with sponsorship from the UAE Cybersecurity Council, the event is part of ongoing efforts to foster a healthy, active, and digitally informed society. The initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to encouraging holistic wellbeing, combining physical fitness, mental alertness, and responsible technology use.
The two-day event will feature a dedicated event village offering interactive activities, community engagement opportunities, and educational experiences. On January 17, participants can take part in running races across multiple distances, including a half-marathon, 10km, 5km, and 2.5km. Cycling activities will be held on January 18 in a non-timed format, providing an inclusive environment for enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. The event is designed to foster family participation, encouraging parents and children to enjoy physical activity together while learning about cybersecurity.
Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, emphasized that the event underlines the connection between physical health, mental wellbeing, and digital security. He noted that active, well-informed families form a first line of defence against cybercrime, particularly as criminal networks increasingly exploit social media and online platforms to target youth. By combining sport with digital awareness, the initiative promotes safe technology use, prevention of online risks, and the development of responsible habits in children and adults alike.
The event also highlights the importance of family engagement in fostering digital awareness, with parents encouraged to guide children in safe online practices and open dialogue. This approach aligns with the UAE’s broader vision of nurturing a digitally conscious and physically active society.
Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, noted that Cyber Run & Ride is part of the council’s vision to integrate sport, education, and community engagement. The 2026 edition coincides with the Year of the Family, further emphasizing family cohesion, wellbeing, and community participation. By promoting healthy lifestyles, social interaction, and digital literacy, the event offers an innovative platform that merges fitness, technology awareness, and social responsibility.
Cyber Run & Ride builds on the success of the inaugural 2024 Run & Ride event, which attracted thousands of participants and strengthened Abu Dhabi’s position as a hub for community-oriented health and sports initiatives.
This event represents a holistic approach to wellbeing, combining fitness, family, and digital safety to empower communities and foster a balanced, healthy, and secure lifestyle.
