ADNOC’s Shah Field has officially set a new standard in the energy industry, achieving an extraordinary carbon intensity of just 0.1 kilograms of CO2 equivalent per barrel of oil equivalent (kgCO2e/boe), making it one of the most environmentally efficient oil fields globally. This incredible milestone marks a turning point in ADNOC’s commitment to sustainability, blending cutting-edge technology with eco-friendly practices to produce some of the world’s least carbon-intensive oil.
Shah Field, located 230 kilometers south of Abu Dhabi, produces an impressive 70,000 barrels of crude oil per day—enough to power more than a million cars in the UAE. However, ADNOC is not stopping at high production rates. By embracing artificial intelligence (AI), digitalization, and advanced technologies, the Shah Field’s operations are optimized for maximum efficiency while minimizing emissions.
The field’s electrification, powered by a blend of nuclear and solar energy, plays a significant role in this achievement, eliminating the need for traditional, more polluting energy sources. Technologies like the liquid ejector system, which recycles gas that would otherwise be wasted, further reduce the carbon footprint while saving power. Additionally, ADNOC’s AI-powered Centralized Predictive Analytics Diagnostics (CPAD) program enhances operational performance, minimizes downtime, and increases safety across the field.
