The fourth edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo reaffirmed the emirate’s growing reputation as a leading destination for international cycling and mass participation sporting events. Attracting more than 1,000 male and female cyclists from 68 nationalities, the race brought together professional athletes, amateur riders, and cycling enthusiasts in a celebration of sport, community, and healthy living.
Covering a challenging 150-kilometre route, the race began at Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain and concluded at the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba. The finish location added a cultural dimension to the event, allowing participants and spectators to experience Emirati heritage alongside world-class sport. With total prize money of Dh2 million, the Gran Fondo also underscored Abu Dhabi’s commitment to supporting competitive excellence and attracting top international talent.
The event was carefully structured to ensure inclusivity and fairness, with riders grouped according to speed and experience. Professional men’s and women’s cyclists competed alongside registered teams, while amateur participants took part in separate groups, reinforcing the Gran Fondo’s philosophy of welcoming cyclists of all levels. This approach highlighted the UAE’s broader vision of promoting sport as a tool for social inclusion and community engagement.
Safety remained a central priority throughout the race. Specialised medical teams, emergency response units, technical support vehicles, and transport services were deployed along the entire route to ensure rapid assistance when needed. These measures reflected the Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s commitment to international safety standards and athlete wellbeing.
Beyond the race itself, the fourth edition introduced the Race Village at the Sheikh Zayed Festival, creating a vibrant hub for fans and families. The village featured engagement activities, rest areas for cyclists, family-friendly spaces, and dedicated zones for sponsors and partners, delivering a fully integrated experience for visitors.
Live television coverage further extended the event’s reach, bringing the excitement of the race to audiences across the UAE. Ultimately, the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo went beyond competition, serving as a platform to promote cycling culture, encourage active lifestyles, and strengthen community bonds. Its success reflects Abu Dhabi’s ongoing investment in sports development and its vision of positioning cycling as a key pillar of wellbeing, sustainability, and international engagement.
