In a thrilling twist of speed, brains, and green ambition, the VoltStar team from The International School of Choueifat, Sharjah raced into the history books by clinching first place at the Greenpower UAE Grand Prix, held at the iconic Yas Kart Zone in Abu Dhabi. But this wasn’t just another high-octane race—it was a 90-minute endurance showdown of engineering marvels, innovation, and youthful grit.
The event saw 14 student teams from across the UAE put their classroom-built electric vehicles to the ultimate test on the track. With strategy, precision, and passion behind the wheel, VoltStar completed an electrifying 79 laps, outpacing their closest rivals—the Leopards from GEMS Dubai American Academy—by three full circuits. Coming in third were the Immortal Speedsters from GEMS Winchester School, Fujairah, with a commendable 74 laps.
The winning formula? A brilliant blend of engineering, teamwork, and strategic driving. Ali Shaltoni, along with Yasir and Yazen Al Guburi, navigated each curve with cool control, proving that in this race, it wasn’t just about going fast—it was about smart energy use, coordination, and trust in their creation. Under the mentorship of physics teacher Davide Farina, the team transformed their classroom learning into an electrifying success story.
Organized by Pole Position and backed by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Greenpower programme is more than a race—it’s a launchpad for future innovators. It aims to inspire young minds to dive into sustainable mobility, electric vehicle engineering, and motorsports careers, pushing the boundaries of what students can dream and do.
Eng. Fahad Al Hammadi from MoEI summed it up perfectly: “This initiative empowers the next generation to become part of the solution to global challenges.”
With sparks flying—both literally and metaphorically—VoltStar’s win is a powerful reminder that when you plug innovation into education, the results are electrifying. Ready, set, spark the future! ⚡🏎️🌍
