The UAE Heritage Shawaheef Championship is set for an exciting conclusion on January 3 as part of the Khorfakkan Marine Festival, with intense competition and high anticipation surrounding the decisive final round. The championship, organised by the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club under the supervision of the UAE Marine Sports Federation, highlights the nation’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its rich maritime heritage through competitive sport.
Heading into the final round, Aref Al-Zafin leads the overall standings with 63 points, racing aboard Al-Mushakhas 33 alongside teammate Yousuf Al-Suboori. Al-Zafin’s consistent performances throughout the season, combined with strong race management and technical expertise, have positioned him as the frontrunner for the championship title. His ability to maintain composure under pressure has been a defining factor in his campaign.
However, the title race remains wide open. Close behind in second place is Mohammed Saeed Suhail, who trails the leader by just one point with 62 points. Competing aboard Hayaf with partner Ahmed Khamis, Suhail has delivered impressive performances across the earlier rounds and continues to apply relentless pressure at the top of the standings. The narrow points gap sets the stage for a dramatic head-to-head showdown in the final race, where even the smallest mistake could prove decisive.
Also firmly in contention is Mohammed Saeed Al-Seel, currently third with 53 points aboard Al-Mushakhas 20, racing with Majed Al-Khalaf and Ismail Al-Mazrouei. Meanwhile, Jassim Al-Dakhil holds fourth place with 50 points aboard Raheeb Al-Kuwaiti 7, partnered with Hussain Haidar Saber. Their strong performances reflect the high technical standard of the championship and the depth of talent participating in this heritage sport.
Previous rounds of the Shawaheef Championship have been marked by extremely close competition, with fine margins separating the top contenders. Tactical decisions by skippers, changing sea conditions, and technical precision have all played crucial roles, keeping the title race unresolved until the very end.
The organising committee has confirmed that all technical and logistical preparations are complete for the final round, ensuring a safe, competitive, and memorable finale. As part of the Khorfakkan Marine Festival, the championship is expected to attract strong public interest, reinforcing the role of heritage marine sports in preserving the UAE’s maritime identity while delivering thrilling sporting action.
