His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviewed Dubai’s Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030 during the World Governments Summit 2026, reaffirming Dubai’s long-term commitment to sustainable urban development, environmental preservation, and enhanced quality of life for residents and visitors. The roadmap represents a strategic vision to balance rapid urban growth with ecological responsibility, positioning Dubai as a global model for future-ready, sustainable cities.
The Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030 focuses on expanding and integrating coastal, marine, and green areas across the emirate. “Blue spaces” include coastlines, beaches, waterways, and marine ecosystems, while “green spaces” encompass parks, nature reserves, urban forests, and landscaped public areas. Together, they form a connected environmental network designed to support biodiversity, improve climate resilience, and provide accessible recreational spaces for communities.
During the review, Sheikh Mohammed emphasised that sustainability is not an optional initiative but a core pillar of Dubai’s development strategy. He highlighted the importance of proactive planning to protect natural resources, reduce environmental impact, and ensure that future generations inherit a healthy and balanced urban environment. The roadmap aligns with Dubai’s broader climate, sustainability, and net-zero ambitions, integrating environmental goals into infrastructure, transport, tourism, and real estate planning.
A key aspect of the roadmap is enhancing public spaces to improve wellbeing and social cohesion. By increasing shaded green areas, walkable waterfronts, and nature-based leisure zones, the plan supports healthier lifestyles and strengthens community interaction. These spaces are also designed to be inclusive and accessible, ensuring they benefit residents across all demographics.
The roadmap further underscores long-term ecological planning, incorporating smart technologies, data-driven environmental monitoring, and nature-based solutions to address climate challenges such as rising temperatures and water management. Collaboration between government entities, private developers, and environmental experts plays a central role in delivering the roadmap’s objectives efficiently and sustainably.
Presented at the World Governments Summit, the initiative reflects Dubai’s belief in sharing best practices and inspiring global dialogue on urban sustainability. Sheikh Mohammed noted that cities of the future must harmonise economic growth with environmental stewardship, innovation with responsibility, and ambition with long-term vision.
Overall, the Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030 reinforces Dubai’s leadership in sustainable urban planning, demonstrating how strategic foresight, strong governance, and environmental responsibility can work together to create resilient, liveable, and future-focused cities.
