The Tawazun Council, the UAE’s key government entity responsible for managing defence and security acquisitions, made a significant contribution to the 2025 edition of the Dubai Airshow by finalizing nine new defence contracts valued at Dh1.012 billion. This announcement not only reflects the UAE’s continuous efforts to modernize and strengthen its defence capabilities, but also highlights Tawazun’s expanding role in shaping the country’s long-term strategic and industrial readiness. With these new agreements, the total value of deals secured during the airshow rose to a substantial Dh25.455 billion, underscoring the scale and seriousness of the UAE’s defence investments.
These contracts, which typically involve a combination of international suppliers and local defence companies, are strategically crafted to support a wide spectrum of military and security needs. They often encompass areas such as advanced weapons systems, aerospace technologies, maintenance and support services, cybersecurity, training, electronic warfare, and long-term logistical provisions. Through these acquisitions, Tawazun ensures that the UAE’s armed forces remain equipped with state-of-the-art tools and technologies required to respond to evolving regional and global security challenges.
Beyond strengthening military capabilities, the deals play an important role in supporting the UAE’s broader vision of building a sustainable, knowledge-driven defence industry. Tawazun’s contracting approach prioritizes local industry involvement, technology transfer, and the development of national talent. This means that many agreements include provisions for domestic manufacturing, joint development programs, or partnerships that help expand the UAE’s defence ecosystem. Such initiatives contribute to economic diversification, reduced reliance on foreign supply chains, and the establishment of advanced industrial competencies within the country.
By securing more than Dh25 billion in defence deals during the Airshow, the UAE demonstrates strong economic confidence and long-term strategic planning. The Dubai Airshow itself, being one of the world’s premier aerospace and defence exhibitions, provides an ideal platform for the UAE to showcase its ambitions, attract global industry leaders, and reinforce its position as a key regional hub for defence technology and innovation.
In essence, the newly signed contracts reflect a wider national objective: building a resilient, forward-looking defence sector that is technologically sophisticated, globally connected, and deeply rooted in domestic capability development.
